World Cleanup Day
World Cleanup Day has brought together over 139 million people in 212 countries to tackle the waste crisis.
The 2025 year's World Cleanup Day took place on Friday 20 September, in its second year as an International Day on the United Nations Calendar!
Together, let’s make 2026 a year of transformation. With your donation, we can continue organising cleanup actions, spreading awareness, and inspiring millions.

What is Digital Waste?

Most people don’t realise that digital storage consumes electricity every day.
Every unused file, forgotten email, or duplicated document continues to be stored on servers that require energy to operate.
Examples of digital waste include:
• old emails and attachments
• duplicate photos and videos
• unused downloads and files
• outdated documents and folders
• unnecessary cloud backups
Cleaning this data reduces storage demand and helps reduce the environmental footprint of digital infrastructure.

The Impact of a 30 Minute Cleanup

Digital Cleanup Day is designed to be simple and measurable.
If one employee deletes just 2 GB of unnecessary data:
100 employees
→ 200 GB removed
→ around 50 kg CO₂ reduced
500 employees
→ 1 TB removed
→ 250 sustainability hours created
In just 30 minutes, organisations can contribute to both environmental action and internal engagement.
In just half an hour, organisations can run a practical ESG activity that:
✔ engages employees in sustainability
✔ produces measurable environmental impact
✔ supports internal ESG and CSR reporting
✔ contributes to the national participation coordinated by Digital Cleanup Day and the global civic movement Let’s Do It World.
Sometimes meaningful sustainability action does not require a complex programme — just 30 minutes of collective action.
Who Can Participate

Digital Cleanup Day Mauritius is open to individuals, schools, companies, and institutions across the country. By dedicating just 30 minutes to cleaning digital waste — deleting unnecessary files, emails, photos, and data — participants contribute to a simple but measurable environmental action.
For organisations, the initiative can also become a fun internal sustainability activity, with teams tracking the amount of data deleted or recognising a “Digital Cleanup Champion”. Participation helps organisations engage employees, support environmental responsibility, and contribute to a national initiative connected to the global movement coordinated by Digital Cleanup Day and Let’s Do It World.
